Vultureheart found herself running short on patrols. The rain had lasted longer than she'd expected, and she didn't want to run her Clanmates ragged trying to reset all the border markings that had been washed out. Still, it was a job that was vital to the success of ShadowClan, so it had to get done as soon as possible. Well, that settled it - she'd have to go out and do it herself. Nothing new about that, and hey, she could take her apprentice with her! The black she-cat had never yet met an apprentice who didn't jump at the chance to get out of camp and go looking for adventure.
She scarfed down the remaining half of her mouse and went to locate Hazelpaw. The pretty young cat had actually been Vultureheart's first choice for next apprentice, and she'd been excited to be assigned her even though she hadn't actually said as much to Adderstar. Hazel reminded Vulture a little of herself, and the little apprentice definitely looked to be going places. For now though, she'd only be heading for - "ThunderClan border!" Vultureheart meowed brightly as she caught up with Hazelpaw. "Wanna get a good sniff of those squirrel-chasers? Because I'm about to go on patrol."
The deputy tended to frequent the border to the east over the one with RiverClan, simply from a longstanding desire to catch another glimpse of the cat that had cost her the tip of her tail. She knew he was in all likelihood an elder by now, or long dead, but she couldn't help it. She didn't trust those lionhearts or their empty promises about keeping the peace. ThunderClan would start something for anything, and it was her responsibility to keep an eye on whatever their overactive imaginations told them they should get up to.
